Safe Work Method Statement – SWMS

SWMS is a document that sets out the high-risk construction work activities to be carried out on a construction site, the hazards arising from these activities and the measures to be put in place to control the risks. All high-risk construction companies must have a SWMS in place as per WHS legislation. Safety Management Consultants will help you develop your SWMS to meet your safety obligations. ​

If you are not sure of the line between high-risk construction and low to medium risk, please reach out and we will assist you.

There are penalties set by WorkSafe ACT if you do not have a SWMS in place:

  • If you do not have a SWMS – WorkSafe ACT could stop you from working or fine you or your principal contractor and 
  • If you don’t have a quality SWMS – WorkSafe ACT could stop you from working or fine you or your principal contractor

Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) 
A SOP is a set of step-by-step instructions compiled by an organisation to help workers carry out routine operations.

Safe Work Instructions (SWI)
SWI’s are a set of written instructions that identify the health and safety issues that may arise from the use of the machinery and equipment or be based on a task or process.
